Meeting with North Dumfries Township Council October 7th, 2013

The North Dumfries Historical Preservation Society presented to Council on October 7th, 2013. The Society presented to Council the plan of having a Total Archive which would include municipal and community archive.

It was stressed, however, that it is the responsibility of the Township to fund the municipal side of the archive as it is in legislation, both the Municipal Act and the Freedom and Information legislation that the municipal records are secure and accessible.

The Council discussed options of providing space in the community to begin the process of collecting, cleaning and storing documents. A suggestion by the Mayor, Rob Deutschmann, was to provide space in the North Dumfries Community Complex (NDCC).

The North Dumfries & Cambridge Community Foundation was also present at the meeting and presented a delegation to Council. The foundation presented a community fund in North Dumfries that could provide money for the preservation of historical documents.

The Society is preparing a complete proposal for Council to review and a clear collection policy for the community archive (the municipal archive's collection policy is regulated by municipal legislation).
